Civilization Explorer
  • Central Laboratory
  • Entrance, outside Verus
  • Level 135+ to enter
  • Party Instance
  • 4 hours cool down, resets at 04:00
  • 60 minutes instance time
  • Three rounds, one creature each

Verus is built on the ruins of a civilisation that already had a Mother Computer, and the excavators have been reading its records without understanding them. The Civilization Explorer will open a crack of time down into the laboratory that machine belonged to, so the party can go and look at it.

What waits on the other side is the day the particle accelerator ran. Mother Computer MA-4885 misreads its own overheating as a scheduling problem, opens a gate into the demi-plane and drags creatures through it. The four researchers lose control of the room within minutes, and the computer keeps going after they tell it to stop.

By the time the third creature is dead the dimensional move has finished. The laboratory, the party and the researchers are all inside the demi-plane, and MA-4885 signs off.

Guide

Step Image Details
1 Civilization Explorer
  • Talk to the Civilization Explorer at (149,155) in Verus. Level 135+ is checked here.
  • A party is needed, of one or more. Talking to him alone is not enough.
  • He runs through the dig and takes Strange Ancient Science along the way.
  • Only the party leader can ask him to produce the crack of time, and that crack is the instance.
  • While Trace of Laboratory Access is running he refuses to open another one.
  • Trace of Laboratory Access is the cool down: 4 hours, clearing at 04:00.
2 Temporary Dimension-mover
  • Step through the Temporary Dimension-mover at (153,155) to enter. The party lands at (120,30).
  • Entering is what starts Trace of Laboratory Access, and that quest is what blocks a second run.
  • Anyone in the party can use it once the crack is open.
3 Probationary researcher
  • Only the party leader can talk to the Probationary researcher at (104,34).
  • Say yes to research project 32001 and he checks the access code and opens the doors ahead.
  • The three doors sit on the top wall at (102,28), (80,28) and (58,28). Each one carries the party a room further west.
  • He also switches on the manual switches, the senior researcher and the effects room beyond them.
  • Nothing can be opened from the far side, so the party only gets one look at each room.
4 Senior researcher
Main Switch
  • The Senior researcher at (45,32) gives out today's access code: the current month plus the current day, multiplied by five.
  • The code is written on the eight switches behind him, at (37,37) through (52,37), read left to right as an 8-bit binary number.
  • OFF is 0 and ON is 1. The leftmost switch is the 128s and the rightmost is the ones.
  • Press the Main Switch at (34,37) to send it. It calls out both the correct code and the code you entered.
  • A wrong entry costs nothing, so there is no risk in trying again.
  • The door opens when the two numbers match, and the switches then disappear.
5 DR Federico
DR Silvia
DR Artemia
DR Vincent
  • The gate at (29,38) leads on, and the gate at (48,82) drops the party into the accelerator room at (58,82).
  • Four researchers work the machine: DR Federico, DR Silvia, DR Artemia and DR Vincent.
  • Stepping onto (80,89) starts the experiment. The party is held in the room from that point until the portal opens.
  • The opening run of announcements takes a couple of minutes before the first creature appears.
6
  • MA-4885 announces a creature coming through the demi-plane, counts five seconds down, and drops one Unidentified creature at (90,88).
  • Kill it and the computer restarts the accelerator. Two more rounds follow the same way, each with one creature in the same spot.
  • Round 1 and round 3 roll on a 105 point scale, round 2 on a 98 point scale. See the monster list below for what can come out.
  • Every creature is a full MvP with its normal skills and drops, so treat each round as a real boss fight.
  • After the third creature the computer announces CODE NAME - DESCENT, finishes the dimensional move at 100% and takes the four researchers one by one.
Tips Toad
Mastering
  • The seven mini bosses in each pool are rare. On the two 105 point rounds each one is worth two points, against seven points for a real boss.
  • The access code changes every day, so read it off the Senior researcher or the Main Switch rather than memorising it.
  • The Civilization Explorer warns that taming monsters gets in the way of this dungeon. Keep pets and taming items out of the run.
  • Nothing in this instance pays Chrono Coins. It is a story instance, and the only loot is what the creatures themselves drop.
Exit Central Laboratory
  • A portal opens at (123,88) once MA-4885 has finished talking, and it is the only way out.
  • Talk to it and it asks where you want to go.
  • Pick Back to Dimensional Library to return to the library, or Back to original spot to return outside Verus.

Monster

Each round summons exactly one creature, drawn at random from that round's pool. The named bosses take seven points each and the seven mini bosses two points each, so on the 105 point rounds a named boss has a 7 in 105 chance and a mini boss a 2 in 105 chance.
