Betelguese Playground
  • Betelguese Playground
  • Entrance, inside Nightmare Garden
  • Reborn 5 and Level 285+ to enter
  • Party Instance
  • One run per account per day
  • 60 minutes instance time
  • Requires the Pre-Quest chain first
  • No healing item or Token of Siegfried works inside

Betelguese got bored of the tower he kept on the Constellation climb, so he built himself a playground in the Nightmare Garden instead and invited the only guests he thinks are worth playing with.

Three shapes, three games, and every shape is bigger than the last. He only hands his door to heroes who have already cleared the Constellation Tower.

Pre-Quest

Step Image Details
1 Library Keeper
  • Library Keeper in the Dimensional Library holds the invitation. It is one entry in his menu, never forced on you.
  • He checks three things before he offers it: Constellation Tower cleared once, Reborn 5, and Base Level 285.
  • He says Betelguese is bored, and a bored dragon is a dangerous thing.
  • He sends you to the far end of the hall, by the water.
  • Gives the quest Invitation of the Black Flame Dragon.
2 Betelguese
  • Betelguese stands at the far end of the library hall. He is invisible unless you are the one carrying the invitation.
  • He will not hand his door to a stranger, so he takes you to his old nest to sign the contract first.
  • If you are in a party, only the party leader may walk in.
  • He opens the solo story run Black Flame Dragon Invite for you.
3 Betelguese
  • The old nest. Talk to Betelguese at (32,93) and he walks down to (32,100).
  • He opens a gate where he stops. The gate does not exist until the walk is finished.
  • Walk into it to follow him deeper in.
4 Betelguese
  • The long hall. Talk to him at (156,79) and he walks all the way down to (156,138), talking as he goes.
  • He says the contract only says you play. He says every guest walks this hall, and none of them change their mind.
  • Talk to him at the end of the hall and agree to follow him.
  • He opens the last door and drops you in the contract room.
5 Betelguese
  • Sign the contract at (49,50). There is no second copy.
  • The playground is not built yet, so he sends you to the Nightmare Garden to build the door with him.
  • Completes Invitation of the Black Flame Dragon and gives A New Entrance.
  • He warps you to the Nightmare Garden at (88,137) and points you at (88,139).
6 Betelguese
  • Betelguese waits at (88,139) in the Nightmare Garden. He is invisible to anyone not carrying A New Entrance.
  • Only he can open this gate, and he does it under your feet.
  • Completes A New Entrance. The real entrance at (84,144) becomes readable from now on.
Tips Betelguese Playground
  • The chain is per character. Every library copy hides itself again once you have finished it.
  • The entrance at (84,144) does not exist at all until the whole chain is done.
  • All three checks are on the Library Keeper, not on the gate. Turning up at the gate first tells you nothing.

Hunting Quest

Objective Reward
Defeat 10 Betelguese inside Betelguese Playground.

Only the third shape counts, so it takes ten clears.

Only 1 character can do it per account on a 7 days Cool Down.

Hand it in at the gate in the Nightmare Garden, not inside the playground.

Giving the hunt up at the gate is free, so another character can carry it.

Hand-in rewards are not wired up on the server yet.

Turning the hunt in only banks the 7 days Cool Down.

Guide

Step Image Details
1 Betelguese Playground
  • Talk to the gate at (84,144) in the Nightmare Garden. Only the party leader can open the run.
  • This is not the Dimensional Library. The playground has no book there, this gate is its only way in.
  • Reborn 5 and Base Level 285 are checked here. Lower characters are turned away.
  • The gate stays unreadable until the Pre-Quest chain is finished.
  • One character per account may enter each day.
  • Opening the run is free, and only once per day.
  • Stepping into an open run is free the first time.
  • Re-entering a run you have already been inside costs 50,000,000 zeny.
  • No healing item and no Token of Siegfried works inside. Bring a healer.
2 Betelguese
  • The party lands at (50,40) and Betelguese welcomes them in. The fight only starts from the statue at (49,51).
  • Only the party leader can wake the statue.
  • It speaks one of twelve lines, drawn at random on every run.
  • Say Begin the game and the statue vanishes. The first shape rises in its place.
  • Say no and the statue simply waits. Nothing is lost, and you can come back to it.
3 Betelguese
Thunder Vortex
Poison Vortex
  • The first shape rises at (49,51). 1 trillion HP and only 0.01% of your damage gets through it.
  • Thunder Vortex opens with it. Eleven lanes sweep the arena from coordinate 30 to 69, all eleven at once on the first four formations and one at a time on the last four.
  • A brush costs 5% of your max HP and stuns for 3 seconds.
  • Poison Vortex joins 20 seconds later and then runs a wave every 20 seconds.
  • Its waves rotate: a nine unit snake train, then a flower swept one petal at a time, then a carousel of nine units on a diamond ring.
  • Poison does not touch your HP. A brush drains 5% of your max SP and poisons for 5 seconds.
  • Neither vortex can be killed, taunted or outranged. They ignore every damage type.
4 Tick Tack Horse
  • The first shape falls. Every hazard stops and whatever is still walking is cleared, so the arena goes quiet.
  • Three waves of Tick Tack Horse rise inside the 42 to 57 box: 3, then 6, then 9, ten seconds apart.
  • The first wave waits five seconds before it spawns.
  • Every mob in the playground takes only 0.1% of your damage.
  • When the last horse falls the second shape stands on the hub as a talkable NPC for 30 seconds.
  • It taunts at 7, 14 and 21 seconds, then steps aside and the real fight begins.
5 Betelguese
Ocean Vortex
Forest Vortex
  • The second shape rises at (49,51). 1.5 trillion HP and only 0.01% of your damage gets through it.
  • Ocean Vortex opens with it and sweeps the same eleven lanes, reading them from the opposite end.
  • A brush costs 20% of your max HP and freezes for 3 seconds.
  • Forest Vortex joins 10 seconds later, then sends one wave every 15 seconds.
  • It walks the poison's own snake, flower and carousel paths, mirrored.
  • A brush costs 5% of your max HP.
6 Squid Bomb
  • The second shape falls and every hazard stops again.
  • Three waves of Squid Bomb rise across the whole arena this time, not just the inner box: 5, then 10, then 15, ten seconds apart.
  • The first wave waits five seconds before it spawns.
  • When the last one falls the final shape stands on the hub for 30 seconds, taunts at 7, 14 and 21 seconds, then the real fight begins.
7 Betelguese
Ghost Vortex
Volcano Vortex
  • The final shape rises at (49,51). 5 trillion HP and only 0.01% of your damage gets through it.
  • Ghost Vortex opens with it and sweeps the same eleven lanes the thunder used.
  • A brush costs 15% of your max HP and silences for 5 seconds.
  • Volcano Vortex joins 6 seconds later and works the 42 to 57 box in waves.
  • A brush costs 15% of your max HP and burns for 4 seconds.
  • The final shape is the MvP. It carries the playground's rare drops.
Tips Thunder Vortex
  • Every hazard tick is a percentage of your max HP or SP, so no amount of HP outlasts the arena. You move, or you lose it.
  • A brush on its own cannot kill. It always leaves you at least 1 HP, but the stun, freeze, silence or poison it leaves behind can.
  • Each phase opens with one hazard only and adds the second seconds later, so you get time to learn the first pattern.
  • All six hazards ignore damage, knockback, taunt and range. Nothing you do removes them from the field.
Exit Betelguese Playground
  • The portal at (52,37) stays sealed for the whole run and only opens once the final shape is dead.
  • Talk to it to confirm, and it drops the party back in the Nightmare Garden at (84,139).
  • First clear: 10 Echo Scripture SSS+ and the Betelguese Playground achievement.
  • Every run: 40 to 80 Chrono Coin SSS+ for the leader, 20 to 50 for members.
  • The hunting quest is handed in at the gate in the Nightmare Garden, not here.
